The Minimum Entry Requirements For Universities In Ghana.

Applications

Considering bachelor’s or postgraduate study, but unsure whether you meet the entry requirements? Admissions guidelines for most universities and courses vary.

To get on to any degree programme in Ghana, you will usually be required to fulfil a minimum condition for entry. Without these basic requirements, it is impossible to enter a university in Ghana. Please note that, it is not a requirement to have all A’s or B’s or pass all four elective subjects. However, be aware that a fail or grade D and below may not qualify you for most subjects.

Your existing qualifications will be important, but you don't necessarily need a great WASSCE or bachelor’s degree to apply for an undergraduate or masters programme.

This guide explains the general entry requirements for a bachelor’s or masters, which include:

  • Credit passes or a C6 for 3 elective subjects and 3 core subjects for bachelor’s and a good second class lower degree in a relevant subject – Depending on the programme and institution, you may need an aggregate of 36 or better for WASSCE and a GPA of 2.1 in your Bachelors, but this isn’t always the case
  • Language proficiency – For international students, if English isn’t your first language, you’ll need to demonstrate a certain functional level, usually through a language proficiency test
  • Professional experience – Some postgraduate programmes may require you to have some professional experience (this is usually the case for Post Graduate Certificates and Diplomas in education, the Sciences and Social Work)
  • Entrance exams – These are only required for Mature Students and in certain subject areas

Remember that you can check the specific entry requirements for individual subjects here.
