Located in Takoradi, in the Western Region of Ghana, UMaT was founded with the vision to be a Centre of Excellence in Ghana and Africa for producing world-class professionals in the fields of mining, petroleum, technology and related disciplines.
Tarkwa is noted for mining gold and other minerals. The University was established to foster the growth of the community through education in mining, petroleum, technology and related disciplines, and to promote knowledge through active research and dissemination of information and to offer professional services through extension activities to the mining and allied industries.
