Tamale Polytechnic was elevated to tertiary institution under PNDC law 321 in 1992. This was after a series of changes after the first change I 1954 from a trades centre to a national training school
Formerly Tamale Polytechnic, the school strives to be an Information Technology driven tertiary institution with a cohesive work force for the running of Professional Certificate, Higher National Diploma and Degree Programs relevant to national development with the needs of the Polytechnic’s socio economic environment taking the center of the stage. The focus of the University is to provide tertiary education in the fields of manufacturing, commerce, science, technology, applied science, applied arts and provide opportunities for skills development training and competencies in the relevant fields, applied research and publication of research findings while linking training and development to the requirements of the world of work and industry
