Overview

Fashion designing, including fabric choice is becoming extremely important to the fashion industry. People are becoming more fashionable while the textile industry's profit is increasing each day = interest is building. This course is designed to develop students’ creative skills in the sketching of the formal and casual clothing industry. Students explore a body of fabric type and texture, fashion styles and sensations. At the end of the course students normally present a collection containing properly executed technical fashion drawings and textile designs.

General Entry Requirements

Subject-Specific Requirements

Prior qualification in Visual Art, Technical and Vocational is ideal for enrollment in this course.

WASSCE (Ghana)

• Credit passes (A1 – C6) in core subjects • Credit passes in any three (3) Elective subjects.

WASSCE/SSSCE West African Sub-Region

• An applicant must have at least credits (A1 - C6) in English, Core subjects and three relevant elective subjects • Total aggregate must not exceed 24 for the sciences and 30 for the humanities.

Diploma Holders

Candidates with the Ordinary Diploma or Higher National Diploma (HND) from a recognised University or Polytechnic with a good Second Class Lower or Cumulative Weighted Average (CWA) of 70% or Grade Point Average of 2.5 and above after a successful interview (depending on the university) would be admitted into the second year of the Programme.

Mature

• Must be, at least, 25 years by (**Some universities would not accept turning 25 after August or May (Please check with university). • Should have a minimum of GCE/SSSCE/WASSCE Certificate or an equivalent qualification. • Must pass a University Entrance Exam.

GCE (Cambridge) – ‘A’ and ‘O’ Levels

Applicants must have three relevant subjects at the Cambridge ‘A’ Levels. They must also have at least five (5) passes including English and Mathematics at the Cambridge ‘O’ Level.

American High School Grade 12

An applicant must have a Final Grade Point of at least 3.0.

Postgraduate

Masters (MPhil, MA, MSc) A good first degree (at least a second class lower division) in a relevant field of study at any recognised University.

PhD 

Normally a Master’s degree with research in the relevant field will be required for admission to this programme. Where an applicant is judged to have any deficiency, this may be remedied by requiring the applicant to make up as appropriate either by course work or mini-project or both. 

How Programme Is Assessed

Students are assessed by any combination of three assessment methods: quizzes/interim/mid-semester tests, and project works completed throughout the course; and written examinations at the end of each course. The exact mix of these methods differs between universities, subject areas, years of study and individual courses. Most degree projects are typically assessed on the basis of a written dissertation during your final year of study.
