How To Get Into A Ghanaian University As An International Student

Tips & Tricks

You may have your heart and mind set to studying in Ghana for your degree; you are with a multitude.

But where do you start?

Ensure you meet all requirements

Firstly, start early – you can do very little if you miss key admission deadlines and you may end up having to wait another year, only if you are bent on studying in Ghana. At this point ensure that you meet all the necessary requirements.

You will need:

  • Your academic certificates
  • An up-to-date passport
  • An English language proficiency qualification if you did not study in English
  • Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate
  • And possibly more

Find a course and select your universities

In Ghana, you select your programme of study before applying to university. You can even explore courses on this website to find a course that appeals to you. Once you’ve selected, have a search on your university’s website and apply.

Apply online

Your university’s website would have an ‘Apply’ button; navigate it and follow through the online application process. You will need to fill out your personal information, and other academic information.

If you are successful you will get your admission notification through your provided email. This letter is a virtual document with a unique reference number sent to you by the university that accepted you.

Apply for your visa

You will need a Student Visa if you are studying for a full-degree in Ghana, which you can obtain through an online application. You’ll may have to get your fingerprints and photograph taken at a visa application centre as part of your application.

Timing is crucial here: your application must be done at least 3 months before your course begins. Keep your eyes on the key dates

Start planning your journey

Now you are ready to begin all the exciting plans, including your means of travel, to get you safely to your new home in Ghana. Speak to the university admissions office or any other office responsible about accommodation and other important arrangements for your arrival.

Welcome to Ghana

Get all excited when you are about to travel and dream of what awaits you when you arrive: Ghana is a whole new adventure.

Remember to keep all your forms and travel documents in an accessible place in your hand luggage to present to immigration when requested.
