The Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) aims to maintain a Centre of Excellence for training in public and business administration, by continuously enhancing the capability of middle and top-level executives in public and private sectors as well as non- governmental organisations (NGOs) both in Ghana and internationally, to manage their institutions and enterprises efficiently and effectively.
Originally named the Institute of Public Administration in 1961, it was set up as one of the key strategic institutions to develop the public administrative system, to provide civil servants with administrative and professional competence, and to plan and administer national, regional and local services. With over 3,000 students enrolled in six schools for undergraduate and graduate studies, prospective student interest continues to rise. GIMPA’s School of Business and School of Technology has a long-standing reputation for preparing graduates with the skills necessary for today’s careers also providing convenient graduate study opportunities at five campuses in Accra (Greenhill), Kumasi, Takoradi, Tema and Tamale. The GIMPA’s spirit of public administration has fueled many research institutes including the John Evans Atta Mills Centre for Law and Governance and the Gender Development & Resource Centre.
