This course is intended to provide historical, philosophical, and practical foundations for the teaching of music. When you successfully complete this course, you will have a rich understanding of the Music Education profession. You will learn: • The characteristics of good teaching • The development of music education in Ghana and the world • Various instructional approaches used in today's schools • The typical role of the music specialist in the educational process • How to create well designed lesson plans and units
This programme is widely taught as full time, part-time, distance or sandwich at most levels.
Prior qualification in the Music is necessary for enrollment in this course.
WASSCE Entry requirements
Core: Credit passes (C6) in English, Core Mathematics, Integrated Science & Social Studies Electives: Credit passes (C6) in any three elective subjects
American High School Grade 12
An applicant for admission to a degree programme in Ghana must have a Final Grade Point of at least 3.0 *Admissions will be to Level 100.
GCE (Cambridge) – ‘A’ and ‘O’ Levels
Applicants must have three relevant subjects at the Cambridge ‘A’ Levels. In addition, they must have at least five (5) passes including English and Mathematics at the Cambridge ‘O’ Level. *Most universities in Ghana welcome applications from students who follow the IB Diploma Programme and meet the following college requirements. Admissions will be to Level 100.
Applicants must have at least Grade 4 in any Three (3) HL subjects. In addition, they must have at least Grade 4 in English Language/Literature (SL) and Mathematics (SL).
• Must be, at least, 25 years by (*certain date). • Should have a minimum of GCE/SSSCE/WASSCE Certificate or an equivalent qualification. • Must pass a University Entrance Exam or aptitude test in Math and English.
Masters (MPhil, MA, MSc) A good first degree (at least a second class lower division) in a relevant field of study at any recognised University
Normally a Master’s degree with research in the relevant field will be required for admission to this programme. Where an applicant is judged to have any deficiency, this may be remedied by requiring the applicant to make up as appropriate either by course work or mini-project or both
Students are assessed by any combination of three assessment methods: quizzes/interim/mid-semester tests, and project works completed throughout the course; and written examinations at the end of each course. The exact mix of these methods differs between universities, subject areas, years of study and individual courses. Most degree projects are typically assessed on the basis of a written dissertation during your final year of study.
